March 19th: Flight from Dubrovnik to Crete with stunning views of Albanian mountains and a great welcome in Greece

We could have spent many days more in Dubrovnik – it is a very nice and beautiful town and people are very nice and honest there! Flight plan was filed at the airport. Weather was not perfect. Clouds were quite dark and according to the forecast there was a front along our way down to Greece. The meteorologist seemed to be confused as he was standing on the apron of the airport looking in all directions at all clouds. It can´t be very common with this weather!  Our departure from Dubrovnik was very exciting – after take off you only had steep mountains in front of you so you had to follow a procedure taking you out over the ocean in order to climb up to safe altitude. Today we had a great tail wind which increased our ground speed to almost 200 knots! Over Albania we were almost flying at the same altitude as the mountain peaks… All mountains were covered with snow – very beautiful!

When entering Greek airspace I recognized some orange liquid pouring out from the left engine and we suspected that we had a leakage somewhere. We kept reading the engine instruments very carefully as we were proceeding to Crete. No major deviations from normal readings were recognized. After landing on beautiful Crete we recognized that the suspected oil leakage was not more than sand dust from Sahara! We got to know that this was quite common this time of the year.

Two gentlemen from GN ReSound in Greece met us at the airport and there was also many people from media and the hard of hearing/deaf organization meeting us. After some interviews we demonstrated the cockpit of World Flyer for all visitors. I can promise you there were big smiles on their faces - great to see! After the airport event we had a coffee with the whole group in central Iraklion where I presented the project more in detail. Feels good now to go to bed after a long day!
