March 28th – 31st: From great sights in Israel to great rest in Egypt!

After about 2 hours flight from Israel we have landed safely in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt! Before we left Israel we got the opportunity to something of this very interesting country. Our “guides” from Bekol have done a tremendous job taking care of us (I hope it was not too difficult though! ). The Executive of Bekol, Ahiya Kamera, took us on a sightseeing tour in Jerusalem on the Tuesday. We were amazed of this city that is holy for both Jewish, Christians and Muslims.

We also fulfilled our dream to become members of the “swimming in the dead sea association” (I don’t know if there is such an organization, but if there is me and Henrik would like to become members). I have never realized until how much the salt actually makes you float (look at the pictures!).

The flight from Israel to Egypt was very nice. Our handling agent, Bedek Aviation, cared about us very well and thanks to them there were no problems to exit Israel. Most of the flight to Egypt was conducted along the boarder of Jordan and you can imagine we were very concerned about our navigational equipment during this flight (you don’t want to end up over Jordan). The GARMIN 1000 in our aircraft is outstanding! Look at the pictures.

Approaching Sharm el Sheikh

Approaching Sharm el Sheikh

As we approached Sharm el Sheijk the desert became more and more apparent (even though there are great deserts in south Israel). We got some nice photos of the great Red Sea as we got closer to the airport. As we had landed in Sharm el Sheikh we realized that the more cumbersome part of the flight will start. I can tell you there was a real hassle just to get out from the airport. We had to pay high landing fees and became captured by quite a few troublesome administration processes. General aviation is not common in Egypt! During the two last days we have met media and given an exclusive interview. We met a great journalist that explained much about Islam, Egypt and Middle East for us! The interview of us became an interview of the journalist after one hour!

We have been very well treated at our local partner in Sharm El Sheikh, Radisson SAS hotel. After so much work in the final preparations prior to departure, but also two hectic weeks in Europe, me and Henrik really needed some rest. Time is 2:20 am in the morning and I have to keep up to my promise (to sleep). On early Sunday morning we will head for Bahrain if we read tail wind forecasts (we need tail wind in order to fly this long distance which will be about 7-8 hours in the air).

Hello Klas!

Thanks for your comment, the longest legs will be within the limitation of full oil quantity and minimum oil quantity. The engines consumes a quite low amount of oil and can therefore run for many hours without having to refill oil. We are tracking the consumption at the moment to be sure that the engines are within specs.

Rgds,

Henrik

Helo,I have a Question about flying safety:How do you cotrol/refill the engine oil-level on the longest legs of the journey?with too little oil the engines will stop and so will you! Please comment on this important question.Regards Klas Åström.

It's really great to see your progress, and terribly annoying when a few days go by without any news, I can't wait to read about the adventures! Hoping you will have a safe and troublefree continued voyage!
