April 6: Further east in the Middle East

We got to learn some more interesting things about Bahrain during our stay. There is zero percent income tax and no V.A.T, quite interesting how to manage to finance a country out of that! From the National museum we learned that the south part of the country is more or less covered with remains from ancient graves, must be a treasure Island for anyone with a bit of archeology interest! Our impression from Bahrain is that it is a nice and friendly country, people lives and enjoy life without to much stress.

The plan for today was to fly to Muscat in Oman. After telling about WFH for the handling agent in Bahrain, Bahrain Airport Services, we got their services for free, thanks Mohammed Hijris! We really appreciate all the help we can get during our expedition; this was a perfect example of that.

Just before takeoff we got information about developing thunderstorm clouds west and east of the airport and soon we could see some very dark huge clouds sweeping in from the sea. After discussions with the MET office we decided to postpone the flight and return back to base at the hotel. When we were ready to jump into the taxi away from the airport we made a last call to the MET-office just to check the status of the approaching weather.

This call made our faces smiling.

The Cumulunimbus thunderstorm clouds had now suddenly changed their trajectory and instead of moving straight into our planned way they now moved in a slight more northern direction, just enough to keep our route clear of the storms. We therefore quickly changed our plans again and set heading for Oman.

We took off just before darkness and got cleared out from the airport in various directions due to a lot of incoming traffic (zoom in the route-map closely and you will see!). The flight went well and we touched down in Oman after approx three hours of flight in the dark. During our descend towards the Muscat airport Johan asked me of I had turned up the cabin heat, “No” I replied and we then soon realized that the outside temperature quickly had reached 29 degrees Celsius. Nice and warm.

Tomorrow we will have an event with hearing impaired children here at the Radisson SAS hotel in Muscat. There will be a presentation about the around the world flight which we hope will continue to inspire and strengthen within the hard of hearing community. We will come back with more info about that!

It’s really nice to read all your comments, please continue to add your comments!

That's all for now...
