April 6th to 7th: Lecture for hard of hearing people in Muscat and tour in the desert
We got few hours of sleep between Wednesday and Thursday as we landed late and where scheduled early for a meeting with hard of hearing people and the management of Radisson SAS hotel in Oman. As we came down to the meeting room we realized we had forgot to move the clock forward one hour as we have entered a new time zone when flying from Bahrain to Oman! Luckily we were almost one hour early to the meeting (according to our clock) which saved us. The lecture was very appreciated and the audience couldn't almost stop asking questions after the lecture!
Lecture for hard of hearing people in Oman
Oman is a wealthy (and beautiful) country where the average income is quite high. The main income is of course oil. Oman has 2.5 million inhabitants (almost 100% muslims) and is ruled by a Sultan that is elected for life time. Concerning hard of hearing there are is no possibility of achieving government funded hearing aids. You need to pay for them privately. It seems like insurance companies don't cover hearing aids (correct me if I am wrong!). There is no organization for the hard of hearing, but an organization for the deaf.
Today (Friday) we have had a day off and we took the opportunity to go and see the desert in a four wheel drive car. It was a great experience and we got to meet the Beduins in the red sand desert and got to know they are living there all year in their simple buildings. Only in the summer they move down from the desert for a short while where the temperature reaches over 60 degrees! As we entered a Beduin familys home we were given coffee and dates. We also got to see the famous Wadi Bani Khalid which is a beutiful Oasis with freshly pouring water which you can swim in!

Back in the hotel again.. We are planning our long flight to India (Mumbai) that will be done tomorrow if weather conditions are ok. It will be a long flight over the ocean. Looking forward to that.
That's all for now. Take care.
